Word on the street is that Scully’s Bar and Grille, a well-loved watering hole in downtown Asheville, is closing in coming weeks. Something completely new is apparently in the works, but there are no details yet.

Scully’s is a locally owned and independent bar and restaurant at 13 W. Walnut Street, a downtown location that’s sort of a hallowed spot. A lot of folks remember the location as the home of Gatsby’s, another beloved bar in downtown Asheville back when downtown Asheville had very little to offer. Over the years, there were a few other iterations (can anyone say Gypsy Moon?) until Scully’s stuck.

Scully’s has earned a reputation as a family friendly spot to gather, catch local music and watch football and basketball games. They’ve got a kids menu, and they’ve won awards for their chicken wings. Scully’s also has a lovely little courtyard that opens onto the best kept secrets in downtown Asheville in the Lexington Avenue courtyard.
