Chipotle Mexican Grill 2013UDPATE: The Citizen-Times confirms what Ashvegas reported last year.

ORIGINAL POST Dec. 2, 2013: Chipotle is planning to open a restaurant on Hendersonville Road in South Asheville. Not only that, but Chipotle is reportedly looking at opening a second location at the Asheville Mall.

This information is unconfirmed at this point, but comes from a credible source.

Developer Rusty PullIan said this afternoon that Chipotle is looking at the area, but no deal has been inked.

Folks in Asheville have long hoped for the arrival of Chipotle and its tasty burritos, and over the past couple of years, rumors have been flying about possible Chipotle locations. Downtown Asheville, Merrimon Avenue and Tunnel Road have all been bandied about as possible spots.

But the word is that Chipotle is planning to land on Hendersonville Road in front of the new Publix grocery store that is scheduled to open in the former Kmart shopping center location in October 2014. More details as I get them.

Read more about Chipotle on wiki:

Founded by Steve Ells in 1993, Chipotle had 16 restaurants (all in Colorado) when McDonald’s Corporation became a major investor in 1998. By the time McDonald’s fully divested itself from Chipotle in 2006,[9] the chain had grown to over 500 locations.

So what? I’ve yet to meet a burrito place that wasn’t fairly lame and flavorless… including Chipotle. No idea why people lose their minds over this place. It’s a glorified Moe’s.

Great. Can’t wait to read Stu Helm’s riveting review on this chain. I’m sure he will pick this easy target for a profanity filled rant! That’s if bikey will take him that far.

He’s not riding Bikey anymore. Bikey got whacked by a tree or some shit. He was on here begging for money. He wanted $1500 for a new bike. I’m guessing $50 for a bike, and $1450 to pay mommy back for all the meals she’s been buying to help Stuey get established in the food critique business.

I really don’t understand the inclusion of that guy’s “reviews” on this site. If I want a child’s perspective on the food scene here in Asheville, I’ll just ask my daughter. Although she is too old to be relying so heavily on the use of profanity for impact.

Agreed. It’s some of the most contrived writing I’ve ever seen.

Chipotle is seriously sooo delicious. I suggest barbacoa hard tacos. Barbacoa is a “Mexican bbq” made from beef brisket. They also offer steak, chicken, and carnitas (shredded pork) or fajita veggies. The taco shells are deep fried fresh daily. Chips are fried fresh daily and have salt and lime juice on them. Salsa and guac are made fresh throughout the day. Rice has cilantro and lime but you can ask for plain also. There is always a long line but totally worth the wait. My mouth is watering thinking about it. Chipotle was always a “treat” during college. There were about 6 within 20-30 mins and I would always go there to celebrate anything. It is not expensive and totally worth the amount of food you will get. You can trust good ingredients. Romaine lettuce, white cheddar cheese, grilled meats over flame, everything is fresh and so good. Don’t skip the corn salsa or sour cream either. Cannot wait for this new chipotle, one thing I miss terribly about my college city.

If you want to live in a place with zero chains then move to Rosman, NC. Good schools, zero chains and 100% unemployment. Good luck with that.

Nobody cares if a chain is built outside of downtown.

It seems that folks pick and choose which “chains” qualify for inclusion or exclusion…

Almost everything downtown is a chain too, or do we not count chains that start here or ones “we” like?

They should put it in the new Publix Shopping Plaza on Hendersonville Rd.

Not fair Hickory, NC has a new one and Greenville, SC is getting a second one and Asheville has none.

That would be a great move on their part due to the demographic to support such a move. Folks that drive buy and can afford to eat out everyday in the ten of thousands daily. Very nice move if true.
