Ashvegas: The City You Love. The News You Want.Word on the street is that an announcement is coming soon from local officials about how a 137-acre tract of land in Bent Creek will be used. That’s land that Buncombe County commissioners bought earlier this year from Henderson County for $6.8 million of taxpayers’ money.

Buncombe County officials said they purchased the property for an economic development project. After the property purchase, Deschutes Brewery confirmed that they were eyeing the property for the location of an East Coast brewery. Deschutes is the sixth-largest craft brewer in the U.S. and is based in Oregon.

More as I get it.

I can’t believe there is no “another hotel/brewery” snark in the replies! Way to go, commentators!

Sure – I like it. Hand over your car keys, check into your room, and next to the TV remote, there’s a row of spigots.

        Enjoy your stay! Chug-a-lug!

I suspect there is less snark surrounding an established brewery bringing a major distribution center with lots of jobs to Asheville than someone else starting a small craft brew pub on the South Slope.

But I could be wrong. The same folks who whine about hotels and breweries seem to bemoan the lack of industry and jobs here so…

I’m hoping that a large brewery will look at purchasing the now empty BalCrank facility on Reems Creek Rd in Weaverville. It’s a beautiful piece of property and Weaverville needs a brewery! 🙂

Could Cigar City Brewing out of Tampa be one of the potential buyers? Heard they were looking in the area for expansion plans late last year as well.

I don’t think they’re looking for anything that big. The rumor about them is a small tasting room on the South Slope or somewhere else downtown I believe.
