Blowing off Brownie
WLOS led off at 6 Monday afternoon with some Hurricane Katrina news, as expected, but botched it all badly by not even mentioning the biggest headline of the day – the resignation of embattled FEMA director Michael Brown.

Not one single mention. Not one word. Nada. Nothing.

Instead, WLOS went big with some dumb report from Mary Jug-liquor about her following more bottled water down to Mississippi. Argggghhhhhhhhh!

We know that WLOS does local news (horribly). All we’re asking is that they inform and offer some context, while doing all the stupid entertaining they feel they must do. The hurricane’s aftermath ranks as the most devastating natural disaster in U.S. history and the story of FEMA’s response has been the hottest thing going.

Not one mention? Don’t you guys have the Internet? You, a little something they call the “Web”? A radio? Any brain cells clicking over there at all??? There is no excuse, especially when WLOS routinely reports national and international news as if they’re on top of the situation.

As an aside, WLOS also did not mention the LA blackout, which struck more fear into Californians thinking they were going to be targeted by terrorists.

Oh well. Nothing like a little job security for every other news organization in WNC.

Adding insensitivity to insult

Guess it wasn’t enough that WLOS completely blew off the biggest story of the day on Monday. Nope. They had to go big with the Jug-liquor report in a most offensive, insensitive way.

The logo for Mary’s report was a Mississippi state flag. After all, she went to Mississippi, right? Well, the state flag includes a version of the Confederate flag’s “stars and bars” that so many have railed against as a racially offensive symbol of hate.

Don’t you guys think before you do shit like this? Aren’t you aware of the racial element to the hurricane story, aware of the allegations (and not just the allegations, but the feelings of so many African-Americans) that aid was so slow in coming in part because the majority of victims were poor and black?

I’m sure your defense will be, “Well, we didn’t mean anything by it.” I’m sure you didn’t. But do me a favor: pull your heads out of your collective ass. Please.

Larry and Darcel, together for the first time

It didn’t take long for Diva Darcel to start showing Larry some love.

I believe you are mistaken. I remember them mentioning the resignation of Brown.

Vegas – you have got to get an interview with the LOSer hair stylist.

Re: Lar’s Hair…Shouldn’t the wig color match his sideburn hair color?

Re: Diva’s Hair…The wig covers up the diva cheekbones and earings. She needs to trade her wig in for the Halley Berry one and she would rock!

A big part of the problem our dear Ashe, is most of the producers who put the shows together have never worked at another television news department. Most don’t even watch other news, much less have any experience elsewhere. Many have sat in the same seat for more than a decade. YAWN. The new people hired behind the scenes come straight out of college. No experience outside Asheville equals narrow vision and stale tv,
