Ramsey long ago established himself as one of the hottest players on the Asheville music scene. But since joining the Band of Horses, he’s been propelled into the musical big leagues. Since it was started in 2004 by Ben Bridwell, the group has criss-crossed North American and played Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. They just played “Coachella and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Their music was on the “Twlight“ film “Eclipse” soundtrack. They appeared on the BBC’s “Later … With Jools Holland.”

“Sometimes those big shows can feel different, and sometimes not,” said Ramsey, who got his start playing at the long-gone and tiny McDibb’s music room in Black Mountain. “Sometimes the pressure is on for a club show. I want top play a good show every time.”

After five-plus years with the group, there’s still a buzz in being with the band, Ramsey said. “Sometimes you can settle in and forget, but that doesn’t last long,” he said. “We’re flying to Europe and playing for people. It really does amaze me. No one in this group has gotten jaded. We don’t take anything for granted. We are doing amazing things that people (rarely) get a chance to do.”
