Press release here:

Spring is officially here, and the oldest outfitter in the Southeast and its outdoor adventure centers are open for the season.

Established in 1971, Wildwater is a third-generation family business offering whitewater rafting on the Pigeon, Nantahala, Chattooga and Ocoee rivers – with some adventures that can be enjoyed by a child as young as 4. In addition, the company also offers zipline canopy tours and yurt accommodations, which provide the camping experience with the comforts of home, such as a comfy bed, a coffeemaker and shelter from the elements.

Wildwater also offers multi-adventure packages that include the company’s signature Raft & Rail® excursion and the popular Rails and Trails adventures – a back-roads Jeep® tour/train-ride combo. Some of the company’s adventure centers also have lake kayak tours, climbing walls, whitewater paddling clinics, and a variety of lodging and food options. (See details below.)

Closest to Asheville is Wildwater’s Pigeon River Adventure Center, less than an hour away, along the Tennessee/North Carolina border, in Hartford, Tenn. Their Nantahala Gorge Adventure Center is 10 miles outside of Bryson City and just 74 miles from Asheville. Their Chattooga Ridge Adventure Center is a little over 100 miles from Asheville in Long Creek, S.C.; their Ocoee River Basin Adventure Center is in Ducktown, Tenn., about 130 miles from Asheville – all do-able for a one-day or weekend getaway without a long drive and the high cost of fuel that goes with it.
