It’s half staff. It’s only half mast on a ship. Unless I am wrong, which I usually am.
Sure, got it, but isn’t that almost Hirohito-like leader worship?
I guess that’s one day for each month he served as President, plus an extra day for for good luck. Not for Gerry, though.
Hey, uh, I could be wrong and all, but I think they run flags at half mast for 30 days after a President kicks the bucket… or some such thing… not sure where else I heard that. /sarcasm
thanks everybody! you guys rock!
After a president’s death, flags are supposed to fly at half-mast for one month.
For more information, check this out: http://www1.va.gov/opa/feature/celebrate/halfstaf.asp
The Truth died at 9 p.m., Tuesday.
Federal and State (but not cities or private business) agencies are required to fly the flags at 1/2 mast for 30 days after a presidents death. Many just follow suit. They should go back up Monday morning!
They stay there for 30 days after a prez dies. At least I think that’s it.
Bushwhacker ordered a 30-day mourning period for Ford. That’s why the flag is at half staff.
it hasn’t been 30 days from the start of the official mourning period.
love the new look!!
And, just to show that Dubya actually got something right:
from the US Flag Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 7, Paragraph (m)
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=browse_usc&docid=Cite:+4USC7
"The flag shall be flown at half-staff 30 days from the death of the President or a former President"
When a president dies and people are ordered to fly their flags at half-staff, it’s for 30 days…
"30 days at half staff after the death of a former President…"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half_staff#United_States
federal law sez the flag has to be flown at half-staff for 30 days after the death of a current or former president.
They are flown at half-staff for 30 days.

Flags are at half-staff because President Bush ordered that they be flown thusly for 30 days following the death of President Ford.

I’ve been wondering myself so I looked it up at whitehouse.gov – 30 days is what Pres. Bush has requested. It should be over soon.
I’ve been asking the same question. I wonder if there’s some kind of protocol when a former prez dies that the flag have to fly at half-mast for 90 days or sumthing.
