Some of what’s going around:

The filing period for local elections opened Monday, and it looks like the first person through the door was Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower, the e-mail maniac whose favorite word is “nay.” Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy filed for re-election, while Cecil Bothwell tossed his hat in the ring.

Over in Woodfin, Mayor Jerry VeHaun filed for relection, as did the same three Biltmore town commissioners who’ve been serving for something like the last 100 years. OK, that’s an exaggeration, but dang, those same folks have been on that board for years: Doris Loomis, E. Glenn Kelly and Charles Grimes.
