Loyal reader Di offers this information. Thanks Di!

I just went to the O’Reilly Auto Parts store today and was asking the dude behind the counter what the painting was for next door. He said that the old Ingles property there will be the temporary home of Rush while they renovate the former Bi-Lo on Patton to be the main gym. That guy said that the gym is going to have a pool and a basketball court and the whole shebang. I’m with you, though. Can this town really support that kind of a place? There’s a big billboard for it near the Sonic on Patton that says locations on Haywood and Hendersonville. Perhaps South Asheville can support something that big, but two locations? Seems ambitious…maybe too ambitious.

I have been a member of the one on Patton avenue for a year and plan on cancelling my membership at the end of my (now) two year contract – even though i was assured it was for two years.

I have only been in the gym a few times as their childcare facility is little more than a television room with a jungle gym – and the child care providers sit and text on their phones the whole time so I can only go when i can arrange child care outside of the gym. furthermore the people there are very immature in my opinion and are more sales people than the gym professionals I am used to dealing with.

They have a list of ongoing classes, none of which fit into the schedule of an office professional such as myself – I would have been better off financially and health wise joining the YMCA.

All they care about is the money, once they get it they could care less.
Their sales practices are shady, they say whatever sounds good to get
    your money.
The staff and trainers at the rush are really immature, why do you think it's
mostly kids who work there. The trainers aren't even nationally board certified,
they couldn't even train in other gyms, most of them look like they don't
even workout. Plus they get you into a two year contract, other gyms do not .
Once the "new" wears off they will be out of busines between 3 to 5 years, they have way to much overhead.

I have been a member at THE RUSH on Hendersonville Rd. for about 6 months. I love it! I have fallen in love with all the classes that are offered. I am not much for treadmills and stair climbers but the pool classes and ZUMBA classes are wonderful!. When getting a membership at The Rush you are getting full access to the gym and the fact that its 24/7 is great! I personally pay a very reasonable price for my membership I did sign up when they were having a deal I saw on the Billboard so some of the deals are legit. If anything just go to one of the locations and check it out, if its not for you, thats fine too, but trust me once you come in and feel the buzz around that place you will never want to leave!

hey rush: you guys should hire better marketing people if you're going to have them posing as satisfied customers all over the forums. at least change up your syntax, maybe? and maybe the reason you don't see membership prices is so they can trick you into think you're getting a deal with their "promotions" by never stating their standard pricing? shady business practices masked with some shiny workout equipment and a smoothie bar. i'll pass.

The Rush is AMAZING… really like nothing u have ever seen before…. Crazy energy right when u walk in… Everyone is Super nice… and motivate u to do anything… I found that ALL of them are 24/7…. and the reason u dont always see a membership price is cause they change deals every few months… this AMAZING deal is going on right now… ONLY $1 Per Day!!!!!! its INSANE… i joined right when i saw the deal.

So do we know how much a membership at the Rush is? They don’t list it anywhere on their site.

I’ve been a Downtown Y member for a few years and have a lot of friends there. I’m trying the Rush on Patton Ave with the free 19 day pass. It is unbelievable equipment, but the attitude is so not Asheville. I like working out there, and have been getting awesome workouts, but do miss having intelligent conversations with friends at the Y….so it’s a trade off,,,lot’s of attitude and a great facility vs a really outdated facility and crappy equipment but cool people. We’ll see, still about a week left on my free trial.

I just noticed on their website that neither one of the Asheville locations are going to be 24/7!! What is up with that? Almost every other location is. I would get a membership if it was open as advertised, but otherwise, I will pass.

Anyone have any info on this?

There’s a lot of fitness-related activity going on in Asheville right now. I just looked in today’s Mountain Xpress and saw an ad for a smaller chain place called Anytime Fitness that intends to move to Patton Ave.

Also, the YMCA and MAHEC are sponsoring some events called "Activate Asheville" in early November focusing on walking.

The Hendersonville Road facility will be in the old BiLo’s as well — an interesting location given that it’s just a couple of miles from the Y at Biltmore Park. They’re definitely putting a lot of money into promotion — full page color ads in the C-T as well as the billboards.

If some of the YMCA’ers will defect to one of these two new locations I think it could make it – the Y is always packed, no matter what time of day, especially the downtown branch.

Plus, this new place says they’ll be open 24 hours, something we’ve never had around here.

The old Peak gym at Westgate had a ton of members. I bet the new gym will get some of that old business. I was a member of Peak and they transferred us to a place way down Hendersonville Rd. next to the Ingles. That’s too far for me to drive, so I quit going and canceled my membership. I would consider joining Rush, but the price would have to be right. I now have a dog and walk about 2-3 miles a day with him for my exercise.

Russ and Darcel together is awesome, but I can’t keep thinking about the dream pairing. Grimes and Kracher back on the desk and in the field together, doing their thing. What do we have to do to make that happen? Ash? Please tell me the Frank "love fest" is not over! Move that topic back up to the top, where it belongs.

I know the Westside needs a gym with all those condos going in in Enka, the question is, is this too far for those folks?
