What’s up with Fred’s Speakeasy?

The sign on Fred’s Speakeasy says it’s closed for remodeling and will open in October. Well, it’s October, and it looks like there’s a ton of boxes and junk still stacked up against the front door. Anyone?

Heard it’s going to be turned into a wine bar. Just what we don’t need more of.

Last I heard of it – they gave everyone a 2-3 day notice that they were shutting down the bar for renovations (spurred by the no indoor smoking law going into effect as of the New Year) with a questionable time period for reopening. They were hoping for a month, but really couldn’t be concrete with the info to the employees.
The owner has a secondary bar somewhere that is keeping him in cash-flow during the renovation time period, but the bartenders and other employees got a bad hand dealt to them.
