Russ Bowen held down the anchor duties Saturday, looking sharp in a gray pin-striped suit jacket and matching black-and-gray tie. Here’s what he had:

Snow makes sizzle for local businesses
Kassandra Pride grabbed a little snow and said it’s been good for businesses. She visited Gourmet Perks, which said that its business is up 35 percent. Special K did not explain this increase, but up is up, right? Then she talked to Ski Country Sports, who said they sell more cold weather gear and ski stuff when we get a little snow. Then K said travel agents have been booking trips for snow birds looking for warmer weather, though she didn’t cite any source. She said she’d tell us about businesses that have been suffering because of the cold weather at 11.

But all the cold weather discussion is old hat, because Lisa Rodriguez in the weather center said we’d have a big warm up on Sunday. Look for temps in the 50s.

In other news…
There was a fatal wreck on Interstate 40. It involved a single tractor trailer at exit 37 near the Haywood County line. Cops think the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel…. The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the death of John Miller, a detective who died Monday. He’d been with the department since 1998. Why is this news now? … Police in Georgia are questioning a 61-year-old man who was seen talking with Meredity Emerson, the 24-year-old woman who has been missing in north Georgia since around New Year’s… And Fletcher was the site of the seventh annual Chili Cook-off. Can’t remember who won.

And in sports news…
Inexplicably, Edward the sports guy showed us the video from the New Year’s Eve motorcycle jump in honor of Evil Knievel that we’ve seen like a million times since Tuesday. Today is Saturday, dude. Puh-lease. Work a little harder to come up with something fresh, ok?
