The bronze turkeys at one of the most well-known stops along Asheville’s Urban Trail have disappeared. Anyone know what happened?

The two turkeys, as well as a couple of pigs, are part of stop #2 on Pack Square along the self-guided Urban Trail. The location is known as “Crossroads” and it pays homage to the drovers who used to march their animals to markets on footpaths through the heart of town.

The statues have had a rough go of it over the years. A couple of the pig statues have been stolen and were replaced. A car wreck also took out a couple of the statues at one time. And they were all removed for a year or two during construction on Pack Square Park.

Hi Jason. The piglet and turkeys are safe and sound. We removed them this fall for some restoration work. They had also come loose from their mounts and needed to be reinstalled. The pigs and turkeys are very popular and all that attention requires a lot of maintenance. We’ll let you know when they’re ready to return. Meanwhile, the large pig is still there to enjoy.
