Deadly hit and run
Russ “Beefcake” Bowen led off with the story of a deadly hit-and-run in Woodfin that left a 19-year-old dead. The young woman’s mother watched her die, according to the typically salacious WLOSers.
Kassandra “Special K” Pride said she was standing on the very spot that Karen Herndon died, along Merrimon Avenue near HB’s Drive-In. Special K said Karen got out of her car along the highway and was hit and killed. The driver who hit her drove away, and police are searching for clues, Pride said.
Herndon was a youth group member at Newbridge Baptist Church, where friends say her death reminded them of how fleeting life can be, Pride said.
It’s gonna get cold
WLOSers didn’t scream the snow siren on Sunday, but weather-guesser Julie Blunder did mention that a flake or two might fall on high mountain peaks in the next couple of days. That’s because temperatures are gonna take a nose-dive. Blunder said it will be windy and blustery Sunday night and Monday, and lows Monday and Tuesday will be 30 or 32 degrees. Glad we got in this wonderful weekend!
In other news…
Ballard’s Farm egg salad has been recalled in 17 states, including North Carolina… Some trees are missing at the Ashvegas Mall. WLOSers said 11 Bradford pear trees “were taken away” by mall management. They were chopped down, fools. Just say it. Mall management said the trees are subject to cracking and splitting under ice and snow, and they didn’t want a limb hitting a car or a pedestrian. They’ll plant sugar maples instead… People had fun at the Lake Eden Arts Festival. We know. We were there… People were having fun at the Hard Lox Cafe downtown Jewish food festival. We know. We were there… And the ABC show Extreme Home Makeover is looking for families in WNC that might be good to profile on the show. WLOSers have been shamelessly pimping the show by doing local stories on home makeover stories “inspired” by the reality series. Whatever.
