Here’s a quick look at some of music in Asheville happening this weekend. Enjoy!

Friday:

Dangermuffin, Isis Music Hall, Show at 9, $10/$12

This is Carolina coastal jam.  This is Folley Beach decanted.  This is sunshine, the smell of salt, and hippies surfing the waves.  This is a three-piece from Charleston, SC who plays music that puts a smile on your face and a rattle in your hips.  A reasonably priced show Dangermuffin’s chilled-out energy is always a pleasure to splash around in.

The Screaming J’s, Pisgah Brewing Company, Doors at 8, $7/$10

Raucous bar-room piano rock, The J’s bring a truckload of energy and a playful edge to the stage.  A talented local band you can feel good spending you hard-earned money on.

Tweed w/ Danimal Planet, The One Stop, Doors at 10, FREE

If the show you go to ends and you find yourself trying to decide what to do at 11:30 p.m. let me suggest that you boogie on over here.  This show will truly be a haven for the happy, the drunk, and the twisted.

Saturday:

TAUK w/ Dynamo, New Mountain Asheville, Music at 9, $12/$15

This New York-based band has taken the music scene by storm over the past four years with their pioneering blend of rock, funk, electronic, and ambient sound.  Touring in support of their newest offering, Sir Nebula, and having sold out the same venue just a year ago, they are primed and ready to throw down up here on the mountain.  According to their drummer, Isaac Teel, with this being the last show before their Thanksgiving break they are going to “Go full blast.”

The Get Right Band, The Salvage Station, Show at 9, FREE

Positive sounding, soulful funk rock these guys will send you home in a good mood.

Mipso, The Orange Peel, Show at 9, $15

This band of surprising harmonies and a coal-miner’s heart is downright entrancing.  With solid songwriting, chemistry born from 2 years of nearly constant touring, and expert musicianship this not-quite-bluegrass quartet is on the rise.
