Here’s the press release. Good luck to Duncan. I enjoyed working with him.
Duncan McFadyen, WCQS morning news host and reporter, is leaving his position with the station to become morning host and reporter at Charlotte NC based public radio station, WFAE. McFadyen began his public radio career in Wilmington, NC. He began work at WCQS in March of 2011 and quickly endeared himself to WCQS listeners. His last day at WCQS will be June 29th. McFadyen acknowledges his departure is bittersweet, “I am excited about the opportunity at WFAE, but I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the people of beautiful Western North Carolina, and I’m glad I’m not moving too far away.”
While at WCQS, McFadyen produced numerous reports on environmental and political issues, as well as features on the wooly adelgid infestation in the WNC hemlock, food trucks in Asheville, the summer camp industry in WNC and much more. Listeners also enjoyed his regular gardening segment with local horticulturalist Allison Arnold. WCQS News Director, David Hurand, says, “Duncan has been a valuable member of the WCQS staff. From day one, I have enjoyed working with him. Duncan has a very bright future in journalism and we wish him all the best.”
McFadyen’s new post at WFAE is an important stepping stone in his career. WCQS Executive Director, Jody Evans, says, “This is a great move for Duncan. We hate to see him leave, but we all knew he was destined for great things when we hired him. The best part is that Duncan will still be heard from time to time on WCQS when he files stories for the North Carolina Public Radio Association’s news sharing initiative.”
WCQS will begin a search for a new full time Morning Edition host and news reporter immediately. Information can be found about the Job on the WCQS web site www.wcqs.org. Deadline for application is EOB June 22, 2012. WCQS will post updates regarding the status of the job search on its website. For any additional information please contact WCQS Executive Director Jody Evans.
