Sources at the Asheville Citizen-Times had been reporting to me that the physical size of the newspaper was due to shrink recently. That didn’t happen. What’s going on? It’s unclear. Here’s what a source tells me:

We heard two explainations. The first was that we were never changing the size of the physical paper at at all.  We are creating it smaller because the plan is to be able to sell into greenville’s 44″ paper … but in the printing process they stretch it back to it’s original 46″.

The other is that Asheville and Greenville were both 46″ papers and they will both be reducing their size to 44″.  The plan is to change the sizes of both in August.  The reason we are making everything smaller now is so we will “get used to it” …

So stay tuned.
