The Sunday news: Very little to report

Russ Bowen held down another really weak report from WLOSers on Sunday. He reads us news about the father of the dead Hendersonville teen “speaking out” about the drowning death in a 10-foot pond. Kasandra Pride says she has a “passionate interview,” but we hear just one bland soundbyte.

Then there are some wire stories, then WLOSers tell us I-40 at exit 59 is narrowed down to one lane eastbound tonight so DOT crews can replace bridge expansion joints. Then a reminder that there’s a state wide burning ban. Then a note from Mike Cuevas that it will probably rain Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but it still won’t help with the drought.

Here’s a little news: U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler will announce Monday that the VA Hospital will get a $1.6 million grant for the Asheville-Buncombe Community Christian Ministry to add 100 beds to its veterans mission in Oteen.

Then there was a bit about the three Republican candidates for North Carolina governor debating at High Point University, backed by video of the U.S. House of Representatives. (huh?)

There could have been a cool video piece on fall color in the mountains, but the WLOSers just did a short thing about the WNC Pilot’s Association volunteering time to take people up in half-hour flights to see the mountains. How did we miss that? We want to go. It’s an annual event, WLOSers said.

Kasandra’s package was an ABOMINATION.

I’m shocked Ash didn’t rip it for being one of the most insensitive, utterly incomprehensible things ever shown on news 13.

She said things like "the dangers of drowning…" and "He wasn’t a strong swimmer…he fell into the water, then the pond took over".

Just check it out on the website. And that wildly innapropriate music made it even worse.

One of the times that News 13 actually deserves a vicious ripping, and we get nothing? I was really surprised.

At least the bland soundbyte in the 6pm K-Pride story was better than the middle school A/V club music video version they ran at 11. And it’s nice, too, that the first two shots they showed of the teen were of him wearing shirts with beer logos. If you’re going to do a tribute to the kid, don’t do so by showing him with evidence of illegal activity.
