The Decentralized Dance Party looks like one helluva good time. Its Canadian organizers want to come to Asheville, but they’re seeking $1,000 through a DDP Kickstarter campaign by Feb. 10 before committing.

More:

The Decentralized Dance Party (DDP) is a portable, battery-powered Party System. It consists of hundreds of Party people, carrying boomboxes, and a DJ who wears a backpack, containing an FM transmitter. All the boomboxes are tuned into the DJ’s master FM broadcast, resulting in a mobile, synchronized sound system!

This Portable Dance Party roams the night, generating complete awesomeness, street by street and block by block, onto buses and subways, into public fountains and beyond. Inevitably interfacing with the public, together we create an infectious epidemic of fun. A Roaming Party Adventure that lasts all night long!

We’ve now thrown 30 insane DDPs across Canada, and the participants often numbered in the thousands. There’s generally been a small police presence keeping an eye on things, but no drinking tickets, fights or any other problems one would expect from such large, wild crowds. That is because the prime objective at a DDP is celebrating life, enjoying music and having fun- not getting drunk and being an idiot.

If a Party is good enough, alcohol isn’t required. The atmosphere alone will cause people to lose their inhibitions and freak out and drive the energy to ridiculous heights and create an incredible experience for everyone. Creating a Party like that is very hard to do, but it is our goal every time. This vision is fully outlined in our Party Manifesto.
