City Council has closed the public hearing on the Ellington. Councilwoman Robin Cape starts council member comments by saying there’s a lot of emotion around the issue. Cape says she thinks about sustainability when assessing situations, and that means social and economic health. This building, in fact, fits that model of sustainability, Cape says.

Cape says the LEED certification of the Ellington is a major step in the right direction. “You’re making a symbolic building and it’s big. It’s going to say something.” Cape says the Battery Park is not much smaller than the proposed Ellington, and she says she doesn’t think the Battery Park is out of scale for the community.

Cape’s approval is a signal to us that the Ellington is pretty much a done deal – council will approve this tonight.
