Breaking with its standard practice of only profiling women in its pages, Verve magazine actually gives a dude his due for the first time ever in its December 2011 issue.

Alex Gomes, a lawyer with the Asheville nonprofit Pisgah Legal Services, gets the distinction of adding some facial hair and testosterone to “Western North Carolina’s smartest magazine for women.” The magazine makes sure not to let the testosterone infusion go too far – Gomes apparently rates because he’s surrounded by women. The 32-year-old is one of two men who were recently sworn into service on the N.C. Council for Women, an advisory group that’s part of the state’s administration department. It’s the first time men have served on the council. The story also notes that Gomes, who is married, also has three female bosses and works with clients who are almost exclusively women, because his specialty is representing victims of domestic violence.

Could be the start of a new trend. I’ll keep an eye out and I’ll link to the story as soon as it goes up on the Verve site.
