The Tar Heels – both the men’s and the women’s basketball teams in Chapel Hill – have tanked this year. Failed, some might say spectacularly so. We would have little debate. The teams, by all accounts, had superior athletes and played great basketball all year.

But when the big game was on the line, the Tar Heels choked. The Tar Heel men blew an 11-point lead and bricked away a game they had won against Georgetown to make it to the Final Four just down the road in Atlanta. The women, playing in their Final Four for a chance to make it to the title game, lost a game against Tennessee after leading by 9 points down the stretch.

The good news is that men’s coach and Ashvegas native Roy Williams was welcomed into the Basketball Hall of fame on Monday with six other inductees. Coach Roy played at North Carolina, then started his coaching career back here in the mountains. He became an assistant at Carolina under Dean Smith, then really made his mark as the head coach at Kansas before coming back home to Chapel Hill (not before turning down the job the first time it was offered.)

Congratulations to Roy. It’s an honor he deserves. Roy is one of the greatest coaches ever, and there’s no doubt he’ll keep his winning way going at Carolina.

Why never a mention of the huge accomplishment of the UNC-A women making it to the "Big Dance"? Sure they got hammered by a former national champ in the opening round, but still…

The Tarheels should have lost rounds ago, but suddenly all the calls that Duke used to get are now being bestowed upon the Heels.

They got so many bad calls in their favor I could barely watch the Michigan or G-Town games. Poor Hibbert couldn’t even look at a heel player without a foul, but Hansborough Litterally knocked a guy off his feet and sent him flying with no call…

So in conclusion heel fans…you have officially become Duke jr.

And as for this, as a grad of Harvard On the Kaw, I can only say… Roy, Who?
