Neat story here on Suzie Millions, the retro crafter who has a booksigning coming up at Malaprops’s.

ASHEVILLE — Two years and thousands of pipe cleaners in the making, “The Complete Book of Retro Crafts” by Asheville artist Suzie Millions has just been released.

Millions will have a book signing and adult retro craft night at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The book, which Millions also illustrated, is a light-hearted look at the crafts of yesteryear — not the exquisite, painstakingly rendered works of accomplished artisans, but the humble and slightly odd stuff put together with matchsticks and buttons and scrap lumber that Grandma and Grandpa made in the basement as a means of avoiding each other.

The book has a little history, a little “how to find,” a little how to decorate or entertain with, and a lot of retro projects to make.
