Press release here:

In the last two weeks, ten amazing teachers were nominated for two Sustainability Education Scholarships.  The two scholarships have been donated by Pollinate Consulting and Ashevillage Institute (AVI) for area teachers to attend sustainability workshops at AVI.  Tax-deductible scholarship donations for the eight additional teachers are still needed by October 1.

Pollinate Consulting and AVI encourage community members, parents, friends of teachers, and businesses to consider making a tax deductible contribution to the Sustainability Education Scholarships for area teachers. One 2-day scholarship is equal to $200. To support a scholarship, please call 828-989-8361 or email [email protected] as soon as possible.  These teachers are ready to commit their weekend to learning about sustainability.  Your investment will grow exponentially when the teachers share this new knowledge of permaculture and sustainability with their students.  Please consider a donation to the Sustainability Education Scholarship Fund.

The Sustainability Education Scholarships support two teachers for one two-day weekend workshop for AVI’s Backyard Sustainability workshop on October 3 & 4 or AVI’s Rainwater/Greywater Catchment workshop on November 7 & 8, 2009.  Each teacher is encouraged to bring one student to the workshop with them, if they choose, at no charge.

Nominations have been received from: Asheville High School, The Learning Community School, Rainbow Mountain Children’s School, ArtSpace Charter School, Woodfin Elementary School, Henderson Middle School, WC Reid Center, and The Balfour Education Center, and Vance Elementary.

Partial scholarships are welcome.  10 people x $20 = one scholarship for an area teacher.  Gratitude will be shown publicly for area businesses.  Extra scholarships will be added to the Sustainability Education Scholarship Fund at Ashevillage Institute to support teachers in future workshops.  Checks can be made out to Ashevillage Institute and mailed to 82 Buchanan Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
