The seventh and latest episode of the AVL Food Fans podcast has been recorded, posted, and is currently available to listen to and download, and you can even get it for free from the iTunes store!
As always, ChefJoe Scully is my co-host, and this time, our special guests are Chefs Mandy and Christopher Butler from 50/Fifty: The Art of Dessert, and they brought us several small, amazing cheesecakes that I oooh and ahhhh over the whole time. I ate three before the show was done.
As usual, Joe says some hilarious shit, plus he tells us that one of his friends challenged us to be more “snarky” on our podcast, so after I call his friend “an idiot,” I describe my recent experience at Jack of the Wood. It wasn’t a good one. I ask Joe, “Can a pickle go bad?”
At the end Joe and I talk about kids in restaurants, and Joe has a bunch of parenting tips… because people love those… Joe… and I mostly just complain and show my ignorance about children by asking if a six-year-old is still considered a toddler.
Before we do any of that we deliver the Food News! We mention as many new openings and stuff as possible. Here’s a complete list of every venue that Chef Joe Scully and I mention during the whole hour-long podcast…
If you have any food news for our Food News segment, please send it to me: [email protected]
The current episode of AVL Food Fans is now available for listening to with the player below, or by going to www.avlfoodfans.com where you can also download it. It is available for free from the iTunes store as well.
We have a new sponsor for this episode: Blue Dream Curry House! Our producer Matt was required to do penance for being a no-show last week, by bringing us some naan tacos from Blue Dream! If you haven’t seen the “Where’s Matt” video, you can do so here:
Stu Helm is an artist and writer living in Asheville, NC, and a frequent diner at local restaurants, cafes, food trucks, and the like. His tastes run from hot dogs and mac ‘n’ cheese, to haute cuisine, and his opinions are based on a lifetime of eating out. He began writing about food strictly to amuse his friends on Facebook.
Funny, I think on our trip to Charlotte the other day we were the three listeners you mentioned who were listening to your podcast. We felt special. :^)
Really enjoy it. It’s making me want to get out more. Jason, you should bring your girlfriend along so you can record on the next one. I’m sure you’ll all have fun!
Cheers and happy end of weekend…
Sean
You said that you know all of the bakers in Asheville. Can we look forward to an interview with the very attractive owner/baker of Old Europe?
