Skintback City Public Radio is quite a handle for this band, but then again, they’re a lot to handle. They sounded great Sunday at the Westville Pub’s Benefest to raise money for Habitat for Humanity Sunday afternoon.

Here’s what they say about themselves:
“Influences: The American Flag, Appalachian mountain ridges, old churches, old barns, smokestacks, rusted metal, historical preservationists, building renovators, The Invisible Republic, dormant farm equipment, flooding rivers, John the Baptist, erosion, sedementary rocks, forgotten cemetaries, ancestor veneration, other people’s mythologies, power tools, hand tools, new imported products with “antique stylings”, Clint Eastwood, Mindell Jewitt, Uncle Remus, Gary Farmer, Al Pacino, square nails, round nails, bloody nails, the origin of the phrase “16 penny nails”, red clay, George W. Bush, The Grapes of Wrath, the Civil Rights Movement, The Labor Movement, The Jews’ successful exodus from Egypt, Smith’s successful exodus from Nashville, The Decline of Western Civilization, The Pony Express, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, cheese grits, tobacco and other cash crops, I-40, I-95, women, old tires (when used as yard planters), solar calendars, lunar calendars, Horses, Bison, Red Tailed Hawks, Dogs, Pickle, Gretchin, Merlin, other people’s shoes, other people’s booze, other people’s clothes, other people’s woes, summer heat, winter frost, God, Satan, and anything else useful beyond its intended purpose.

“Sounds Like: The bastard lovechild of Harry Smith’s “Anthology of American Folk Music” and VH1′s “Top 100 Music Videos of All Time” It’s fair to say that it sounds a little bit like all of the things it isn’t.”

Love their "influences" list. Think I’m going to go write my own right now!
