Press release here:

ASHEVILLE, NC — Asheville’s growing climate services community will be on display in Phoenix on January 12-15 when the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County (EDC) partners with the Asheville Hub and several area companies to host an exhibit at the American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) annual meeting in Phoenix, The AMS annual meeting is the world’s largest trade show for weather and climate-related businesses. The Asheville exhibit will highlight Asheville’s unique assets related to climate data and information, its growing technological workforce, its numerous collaborative partnerships, and regional opportunities for education and research.

“This is the third year that Asheville, as a community, has exhibited at the AMS annual meeting and we see the positive impact of this effort grow each year that we are involved,” said Ray Denny, EDC’s vice president of economic development. “The exhibit has brought immediate success each year in the form of new data customers for local businesses like ERC Broadband, but the real benefit is more long-term because Asheville is gaining exposure every year as a community that is actively recruiting businesses and public investment in the climate change, environmental and green business sectors.”

The Asheville exhibit is a collaborative effort by the EDC, the Asheville Hub’s Technology Cluster coordinated by the University of North Carolina Asheville, Education Research Services, the Centers for Environmental and Climatic Interaction (CECI), ERC Broadband, and Scientific Research Corporation (SRC), which opened a new division in Asheville in 2008.

“SRC is a strong supporter of Asheville’s efforts to grow the climate information and technology sector,” said Greg Wilson, director of operations for SRC’s new earth science operation in Asheville. “In fact, SRC chose Asheville as the site for its new earth science operation last year because the company’s leadership is impressed with the vision of the Asheville community. CECI and its partners are working to position this region as the leading location for public investment and private business growth related to the need for clear and meaningful climate information.”
