There is no plan for locating a Dunkin’ Donuts in the old S&W Cafeteria building on Patton Avenue in downtown Asheville, according to a spokesman for the owners of the building, as well as a spokesman for the company who owns the local Dunkin’ franchise.

Despite a report on the Mountain Xpress website, which quoted construction workers, there are no current plans to locate a Dunkin’ Donuts in the building, said Brett Krueger, a spokesman for the group of Florida investors who bought the building in 2011. Scott Shealy, a spokesman for the Asheville company that owns the Dunkin’ Donuts franchise (a company which my mother works for) also confirmed that, while a local real estate agent may show a Dunkin’ representative the location, there are no plans for a donut shop at that location.

There’s a lot of interest in the now empty S&W location, a gem of a building a great location downtown. The site was a rumored Starbucks location, as well. Despite all the talk, there’s nothing firm yet. We’ll let you know when there is.

  2. Dunkin Sucks! They do not make the donuts fresh! They are hours old and stale.

  3. By the way Krispy Kreme is nothing but a piece of candy shaped like a donut. Dunkin Donuts used to be real donuts, now they are nothing but frozen food, thawed and served.

You can get real donuts at Carolina Mountain Bakery, and possible Sisters McMullin Don’t judge until you have had a real donut. Repeat, Krispy Kreme is not a real donut.

    • Not a big fan of Krispy…Dunkin’ isn’t ideal, but I prefer it substantially more. FDR is dead-on regarding “don’t judge until you have had a real donut.”

    • FDR – Yesterday I read this post, and I would like to respond. I am part of the franchise group fpr Dunkin Donuts, in the Asheville market. Our donuts are still made by hand, in Asheville. We operate a bakery, at one location, and transport the donuts to each store daily. If you are interested, you can email me at turk322@gmail.com, for more details. The reason we do not make the donuts at each separate location, is the cost to purchase baking equipment for each store. Thanks, Scott

  4. If its going to be a chain dougnut shop AT LEAST get Krispy Kreme. DD is the bottom of the barrel. Anybody that would “love” to have a DD downtown needs to move to Greenville.

  5. Too bad DD is not coming downtown. I see people were crying about the possibility of DD opening up at S&W on the comment thread for the MountainX story (same old tired complaints about chain shops ruining downtown, blah, blah blah). I would love to see a local doughnut shop there, but unless or until that happens, bring on DD.

  6. From local Hipsters to Real Estate agents the rumors are flying in Asheville. Why? Probably to mess with all the pseudo hippies and middle aged trustafarians that have moved to Asheville and taken up the anti growth chant. Throw in a rumor and they all run towards it while the contracts are being signed on another location. LOL

Jason- What’s going in to the corner unit in the bottom of the Flat Iron building (facing the iron)? Starbucks would have killed it right there.
