Hooray,,,a decent CONTEMPORARY quality customer focused food store finally to WNC
OK, folks, here is the information, straight from the Publix web site. No point in us speculating any more. http://www.publix.com/about/newsroom/NewsReleaseItem.do?newsReleaseItemPK=6356
I’m excited about the news myself and I work for Publix. I’ve been wanting to relocate to Asheville. Now I can and keep my job as well.
I love Publix. I have shopped in Florida and Atlanta and can’t wait to shop here in Asheville.
We need a Walmart and a Publix in West Asheville.
After relocating to Asheville from Colorado I was rather shocked that Ingles was the main grocery store and for the size of the city it was the only chain store. It just seemed sort of out dated. We had KingSupers and Safeway. I think Ingles needs a little competition they might clean up there act, a little.
Ingles Markets were founded in Asheville by an Asheville native. That is how they grew into a monopoly here.
What’s the hang up on Boars Head. I thought they did the change at all Ingles. Sorry for that mistake now go get a life losers.
takes one to know one, jerk
Having lived in Atlanta and shopped Publix I’m ecstatic. I’ve been excited about thebHarris Teeter but this is even better!
Thanks God! I have been praying for a better supermarket. Ingles just SUCKS!!! I’m tired of returning rotten food from the so call “fresh” counters. And I long for the day i don’t have to look thru the Laura Lynn rubbish to find a decent name brand. And the customer service could not be worse. Especially the tunnel rd store. To Betty Joan And Billy Judd, Mgrs of that store, I will be happy to drive out of my way for better….Hmmmm???….everything!
Publix Managers in South Florida have confirmed near future locations in Asheville, Black Mountain AND Weaverville by the end of 2016.
The Law… FYI: Several Ingles Stores including mine DO NOT SELL Boars Head in the deli.
I enjoy their hair
Seen the renderings…they were thinking of taking the rush out..but now looking at across the street.
where?????
Being from Florida, I’ve enjoyed Ingles but miss Publix and certain items they offer (mostly their deli and Boar’s Head meats) and would enjoy seeing it here in Asheville. It’s also a great location as the K-Mart plaza is dead and would generate more traffic. I’m sure the surrounding businesses would also appreciate the increased traffic – although Earth Fare and Ingles are right down the street.
Ingles sells nothing but Boar’s Head meats and cheeses… The switch to Boar’s Head happened last year.
Just so you know…
Ya’ll like Boars Head so much because they use MSG (monosodium glutamate) which tricks your brain into thinking something tastes good….
The Law… FYI: Several Ingles Stores including mine DO NOT SELL Boars Head in the deli.
If so, that change hasn’t made its way to all their stores yet.
@ The Law…true Ingles has boars head now…but why did it take them so many years to get it. Ingles cannot keep up and rumor from FL is that Publix is in talks to buy the entire Ingles chain.
nah, not the way publix does business. they are heavily into real estate but only buy individual shopping plazas or develop purchased land.
If you look at the vast majority of the properties that house Ingles Markets, you will find that they are free standing shopping centers on land that is all owned by Ingles. In fact, I believe that Ingles earns more money from their real estate holdings than they do from grocery income.
As someone who lives on the southside this would be welcome news. We miss Harris Teeter a great deal and it opening north of Downtown doesn’t do us much good. The former Harris Teeter location is too small for a store like Publix. I truly hope this is more than a rumor.
i for one, can’t wait! I’ve never been a big fan of Ingles. The rumor is, that old man Ingles and the Publix guy had a deal that Ingles wouldn’t go to Florida, and Publix wouldn’t come to North Carolina. They’re both passed on. Deal is off. Can’t wait for Publix! YAY!!!
The rumor is that Ingles and Publix had agreed not to occupy the same territories. Since Ingles moved into South Carolina that violated the agreement so here comes Publix. Thank goodness for the competition, finally.
Publix is what Ingles always wanted to be when they grew up. Fantastic store, I hope they get closer to North AVL soon. (I’m a FL native, but love my adopted hometown of AVL and everything about it except it’s current grocery choices)
Publix should just replace every ingles – the world would be a better place.
Amen!
Placing competing stores within the vicinity of each other is common practice throughout the country. There is already foot traffic in the area. I, for one, shop several different stores for groceries and would be happy to have all of them within one area.
Will be too crowded I think. Earthfare, Ingles, Publix. Should probably try the old Harris Teeter site further north down the road.
