river_ruckus_2014Press release:

CrossFit events continue to grow in the Asheville area and an event scheduled for this spring may be the largest local event to date. The {re}vici.com River Ruckus II, a two-day CrossFit event for individuals or 4-person teams, will be held at UNC-Asheville on April 26-27. Asheville’s CrossFit Pisgah will stage the event, which expects to grow from the nearly 400 competitors that competed in last year’s inaugural edition. The group’s fall team-only event, the {re}vici Beer City Beatdown, was held in October at Carrier Park and sold out more than six weeks in advance. Athletes and teams from across the Southeast, including the Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee, will attend. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go toward the Asheville City Schools Foundation’s “In Real Life” after-school program.

Athletes are scheduled to compete in four separate workouts over the course of the day. An overall champion will be crowned based on the performances in each competition. Over $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded. A number of vendors will be on-site and spectators are encouraged to attend, free of charge.

“We’re very excited about this year’s Ruckus event. We’re especially excited about our new title sponsor, {re}vici apparel, and also to have access to the incredible facilities at UNCA. Western North Carolina has seen incredible growth in the CrossFit community over the past year and this event will be a great reflection of that. We are looking forward to a great day of competition and community,” said Ben Williamson, Co-Owner at CrossFit Pisgah.

Additional sponsors include CrossFit Pisgah, Grey Eagle CrossFit, FUEL Food Truck, modPaleo, iWebXpert, Earth Fare, Foot Rx and Threshold Provisions.

CrossFit is defined as constantly-varied, functional movements performed at high intensity. There are five CrossFit affiliates now operating in Buncombe County. For more information, call Ben Williamson at 828.772.7115 or email [email protected].
