We just received a note from the organizer of a science fiction and fantasy convention for right here in Ashvegas on Oct. 8 and 9. It’s called Revoluticon 2005

This gathering sounds interesting, though I’m a bigger comic book fan than sci-fi fan. Back in the day, we’d have science fiction, fantasy and comics all at one convention. Comics just don’t get the respect any more.

Anyway, here’s a sampling of what you’ll find at the Ashvegas Army Reserve Armory over on Louisiana Ave (just off Patton) if you go (Tickets are 10 bucks, which covers both days, and they’ll be sold at the door):

Swordfighting 101
Learn the Discipline of the Sword, the Riddle of Steel. Beacuse you know this whole “civilization” thing is just a fad.

A Reading with Anthony Karnowski
Presented by Anthony Karnowski, first-time author of the novel Forgotten Prophecies. A Synopsis:

Accused of crimes he did not commit, Kyr Astaldereg has been forced into hiding. Accompanied by his long-time friend Thoma, a member of the sinister Chungtao Syndicate, and Sephteria, an exotic and beautiful girl who claims to be an elf, Kyr finds himself drawn into a forgotten, subterranean
world filled with beings thought to exist only in legend. There he stumbles upon an ancient war
being fought against a power so terrible it has enslaved mankind without their knowledge. The only hope for the future of humanity lies with Kyr and his friends as they work to fulfill a series of prophecies long lost to the human race.

Schlock Mercenary

Howard Tayler, creator of the Schlock Mercenary comic strip, talks comics, science fiction, and humor. Plus ominous hums.

A Reading with David Beauchamp
Presented by David Beauchamp, critically acclaimed author of the Agency 32 series. A synopsis:

Agency 32 – a government organization that doesn’t exist that stands between us and the unknown. They deal with all threats to the United States government and its interests abroad of the
paranormal and supernatural nature.
Agency 32’s operative the Black Knight, Sebastian Cole, is sent to Chelten, England to track down
and capture occult serial killer, Randy Cummings. While on the trail of Cummings, Sebastian runs across an old acquaintance, his counterpart from the Ministry, England’s version of Agency 32.
Now the two are sent down a path in search of Cummings that they never expected because what they
are looking for is not Cummings but something much greater that has ties to both of their organizations.

And there’s plenty more. Check it out. This is the organizer’s blog, by the way. Check it out, too.

Damn, it’s attendees only, and I’ll be out of town. Too bad, I’d like to attend the Swordplay seminar.

Thanks, Ash. I guess I should submit something to the fiction contest.
