It’s a Friday at the end of January. Whew. We’ve survived what is usually the coldest month in and around Asheville environs. We had a little snow burst late this afternoon, and by Sunday, the high temp should hit 50 degrees or so.

But the story changes dramatically next week, according to WNC’s best weather source, Ray’s Weather. According to the forecast for Asheville, we’ll have rain turning to snow on Monday. Then the temperature drops drastically, with the high on Tuesday at 23 and the low at 12. And “significant snow showers” will continue on Tuesday, according to Ray’s Weather.

So crank up the snow sirens. Go to Ingles. Now. Buy snow shovels. Buy salt for the sidewalk. Buy soup for the soul. Be ready for more school closures. Look out for other cancellations.

Should be a fun weather week. Keep your eye on Ray’s Weather for excellent, specific forecasting for Western North Carolina.
