Anyone else noticed that the old Playworld arcade on Merrimon Avenue has been gutted? Anyone know what’s going on there?

All the fans of Arcade Asheville should remember that Playworld served as Asheville’s arcade for years, with its pool tables and pinball machines. In recent times, it was a sketchy place. Actually, I don’t remember it ever not being kinda sketchy.

  1. It was reported in an AVL-Shitizen's crime page report that there were shots fired during the Xmas holidays. Sketchy? Yes, I would say so.

It was also in the movie "Thunder Road". It was a grocery store then and when the car blew up people came out of it looking in shock.

I never thought of it as sketchy. Run down? Yes. Awful pool tables? Yes. Sketchy? No.

Also, to call it an arcade would have been quite a stretch. It was a pool hall that happened to have a couple video games (same for nearly every other pool hall).
