Pink Dog Creative, a new mix of art studio and retail space, celebrated an open house last weekend. I didn’t attend, but I did walk around a week or two earlier. I met and chatted with Randy Shull, the man with the plan who has worked to turn the old warehouse space into fabulous studio space for artists. The artists who will be using the space include: Stephen Ham, Ginger Hubner, William Price, Sam Reynolds, Steve Reynolds, Ralph Schmitt, Randy Shull, Johanna Smick, Fox Smith, Viola Spells, Brad Stroman & Seth Weizenecker.

Shull told me the Asheville Area Arts Council is planning to move its offices into Pink Dog Creative space. He also mentioned plans for a new restaurant in the space. It’s to be called The Junction, according to this Mountain Xpress Blogwire post.

That’s great news for what I already consider the hottest street in Asheville right now. Depot Street, in the River Arts District, is also home to the new Glen Rock Depot, a collection of dozens of new workforce housing apartments and retail space. The old building that used to house the Depot Club is also being completely renovated and turned into an artist studio and living space. It’s an amazing transformation.
