We know we have plenty of Ashvegas readers over at UNCA, and we’re sad to say that we’ve been neglectful of the happy-go-lucky 20-somethings over on campus. We went over to the quad and shot some Flamenco dancers last week, but we need to do a better job of finding out what’s really happening over there besides the usually dorm room boffing and weekend binge drinking. Damn we miss Drinkin’ with Lincoln.
So anyway, we were thrilled when Ethan Hunter, a 20-something (we assume) writer/director asked us to check out his independent film For Catherine. With all the movie-making that’s been happening around here, it’s only fair, right?
The movie will be screened at 9 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 29) on the back wall of Mills Hall. That’s pretty cool. As Hunter says, grab a beverage and check it out.
One disclaimer: Ashevgas has not actually screened this movie. We have watched a couple of video clips and trailers. We can say that For Catherine is better than Hunter’s first movie, the surreal post-apocalyptic Western titled Ultimo Hombre. We didn’t see that one either, but trust us.
What we can say is that the acting feels a bit melodramatic and the story sounds like many of those other movies about 20-something friendships and love triangles. But hey, we give mad props to anybody who took three years out of their lives to write, film, edit, score and market their own frackin’ movie. It’s a pretty kick-ass effort, to say the least. And we’ll go just to get a closer look at the babe in the flick.

Some fun facts
The movie was shot entirely on location in and around Ashvegas. Locations include the Director, Ethan Hunter’s old apartment, Prichard Park, College Street Grill and Pub and the parking lot of a Blockbuster Video.
Ethan promised the cast and crew that principle photography would be completed in twelve weeks. He was only wrong by twenty-five months.
The cast and crew burned through approximately 302400 cigarettes during production.
