Oskar Blues, one of the top 40 craft brewers in the nation, recently built a brewery in WNC. Its Brevard location, near the Asheville airport, opened Wednesday and received a licence to brew  in N.C. the same day at about lunchtime.

According to Oskar Blues founder Dale Katechis, WNC can expect 40,000-56,000 barrels to be brewed in locally by the end of 2013. Production will eventually ramp up to 85,000 barrels annually.

Employees are working 15-hour days in anticipation of the opening, according to Oskar Blues marketer (and Asheville beer writer) Anne Fitten Glenn.

The brewery will hold its grand opening on New Year’s Eve with a live band, local food trucks and plenty of beer for sale.

The brewery is open to the public from noon-8 p.m. Fri/Sat/Sun and 2-8 p.m. Mon-Thurs.

Check out photos below of the facility, its towering keg and canning equipment, and a upstairs bar space with merch and OB brews on tap.
