Confirmed by the manager of the Wendy’s location on Merrimon: This message was displayed last night, but taken down this morning. Another photo is here.

The sign appears slightly different in the two images, but the manager of the Merrimon location confirmed the sign was up on Tuesday, and a local witness confirms the sign was still up this morning at 8 a.m..

According to WLOS, today is Chick-fil-A’s annual Customer Appreciation Day.

Supporters of the company are planning on heading out in droves to support the company that’s been highly criticized after an executive’s comments about gay marriage.

Opponents are planning on protesting today’s appreciation day, along with staging a “Kiss Mor Chiks” protest on Friday – when they are encouraging people of the same sex to show up at Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country & kiss each other.

Local gay rights group Just Us for All plans a sit-in today at noon at the Chick-fil-A on Tunnel Road. Details of the protest are here.

Update 12:12 p.m. : Looks like the image above is of the Wendy’s in Boone, N.C. but the message did appear on the sign in Asheville, and at other Wendy’s franchises.

If every major fast food chain in America came together to form some kind of anti-gay Voltron, I would A) win the pot in my office’ betting pool and B) officially declare it the first horse of the Religious/Corporate/We’ve Just All Given Up On Not Being Assholes To Each Other Apocalypse.

This was going on elsewhere and Wendy’s is being a bit cagey in its repsonse:

I chose today to check out the new JoAnn Fabrics. Wrong move on my part at 12:08 p.m. It took me forever to get into that parking lot with all of the people there. Pretty sure there were folks from both sides. Had to be about 200 people standing around plus a gazillion cars trying to get into the drive-thru. Go figure!!!!

If Bojangle’s or Cookout comes out against as anti-gay, I will be devastated. I’m guessing Cookout probably is since they print Bible verses on their cups, but at least they’re open on Sundays.

Lots of times the same person(s) own multiple franchises of Wendy’s, etc. so it could be that many in our area are all owned that way.

Well if the fast food company’s keep this up I guess my goal of never eating fast food again (for health reasons) will be that much easier.

Someone might want to forward that photo to Wendy’s corporate office. My guess is that their philosophy will not jive with whoever owns the local franchise.

Let em post their support at all fast food restaurants. Maybe people will stop eating that garbage and get healthy.

By the way enjoy a chicken sandwich at Wendy’s which is “Cooked in the same oil as menu items that contain Egg and Fish”..mmmmm yummy

“Here at Wendy’s, we prepare and serve hamburgers the old-fashioned way: With hate and prejudice.”

Little Wendy would be so proud.

Sean, I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, they will get more business from the bigoted Christians in the area, which again unfortunately outnumber the supporters of the LGBT community. But then again, Asheville did vote against the so called “Amendment One” so maybe this Wendy’s will lose some business. I wonder if the Chick-Fil-A protest is going to happen here in Asheville? I am a straight, married man but I would kiss another man at the Chick-fil-A just to show my support for the LGBT community.

Yup, Jason, in the same boat, straight, married, pro civil rights.

Bold move with such a high LGBT population here. Guess we’ll be skipping that Wendy’s too.
