Reminder, from the carolinatravelplanner.com blog:

Exciting times are coming to the mountains of North Carolina. Final preparations are underway for the opening of  Paula Deen’s Kitchen at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel in late-January. The new restaurant will be part of the $633 million, three-year expansion program. Created as a full-service, 404-seat restaurant, Paula Deen’s Kitchen at Harrah’s Cherokee will serve a la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will be reminiscent of the decor and ambiance of her legendary home and kitchen in Savannah.

Adjacent to the restaurant will be a 1,800-square-foot Paula Deen retail shop offering Paula’s cookbooks, spices and food items, cookware, logo wear and gifts. “We are honored to welcome Paula Deen’s Kitchen to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel,” said Darold Londo, Senior VP and General Manager of the property. “Her style of cooking and Southern hospitality will be a perfect fit for our guests here in the Great Smoky Mountains.”

I had a very bad experience at Paula Deen's at Cherokee. On Dec 29, 2010, a party of three tried to lunch there and waited 45 minutes for a table after being told it would be only 30 min wait. After 15 minutes at the table we were told the kitchen "was backed up" and anything we would order would be a wait of another 45 minutes. We tried for sandwiches or anything, but were told they just could not serve us. They did not have staff, food, nor time to prepare what they did have. What a disappointment after waiting near a year for the restaurant to open. We had to backtrack to the casino cafeteria and wait in line there. Harrahs is going to lose a lot of gambling time if you want to eat at Paula Deens. We three bought items in the gift store and really wanted to patronize the new restaurant, but were disappointed after such a waste of time.

Just a FYI…..I work at the casino and Paula Deen's Restaurant and GIft Shop opened about 10 days ago. The "Official" grand opening is set for late January with an appearance by Paula Deen. It is really a cool place with a great menu and buffet and gift shop…come check it out!
    Thanks,
    Ann
