WLOSers announced on Friday that Pat Simon of WAFB in Baton Rouge would be joining Tallahasee Tammy Watford as co-anchor of the 5:30 show. Tammy seemed quite happy to have a new rube to joke with.

Simon appears to be a real Southerner. He’s a native of Lafayette. He graduated from LSU. And he’s apparently got as much military experience as he does broadcasting experience. His bio says he served in the Army in the 1980s, then remained an active member of the Louisana Army National Guard, where he worked big events like Hurricane Andrew. He’s a major. Of course, that doesn’t out-rank Diva Darcel, who’s an on-set general, but it’s pretty good.

Here’s a little more on Pat:

Family Info: Wife – Rebecca, Daughter- Jordan, Sons – Zack and Dustin

Hobbies: Jogging, inline skating, tennis, canoeing, movies (comedies)

Big Stories Covered: Covered Clinton impeachment trial from Washington, interviewed 5 Louisiana Governors, covered Hurricane Andrew as reporter and national guardsman, broke the Edwin Edwards recall story, and interviewed the likes of Bill O’Reilly, Sen. John McCain, Ross Perot, and Casper Weinberger.

Favorite Quote: “Success is a journey, not a destination.”
