Pack's Tavern

Pack’s Tavern will be serving up food and drink over the weekend during a couple of soft opening events for invitees, then be open to the public on Monday after a ribbon cutting ceremony. Come on out, and wear your “Save the Magnolia” T-shirt.

From the Beer Guy at the Asheville Citizen-Times:

Circle the day and hour on your calendar: Asheville’s new Pack’s Tavern snips the ribbon at 10:45 a.m. Monday and immediately begins pouring pints and serving food as the latest downtown hotspot.

Early birds have already had a look at Pack’s at last week’s Spruce Street Speakeasy party. But come Monday, Pack’s will be serving from its own lineup of draft brews and menu.

The buzz about Pack’s has been building, and the place will be slammed, just as the Lexington Avenue Brewery quickly found success.

It was just last August that developer Stewart Coleman decided not to build a nine-story building next to Asheville City Hall and instead began renovating the old Hayes and Hobson Building, once home to the beloved Bill Stanley’s bluegrass and barbecue palace. In less than a year, the space was taken from shabby former offices into a grand new taproom and restaurant.

Co-owner Tom Israel is prepared for a big opening-day crowd. The main restaurant seats 250, but he’s got a staff of 150 ready to handle the work. “No server will have more than three tables” to cover, he said. Outdoor dining at Pack’s will begin come June.

As for the grub, big eaters might consider something called the Mount Mitchell burger, which includes Swiss and cheddar cheese, fried green tomato slice, a fried egg, bacon and jalapenos. Might want a lighter craft brew to go with that!
