Every so often, we’ll receive a comment about how we handle blog comments. So let us clarify.

Like just about every blog out there, we have varying abilities to screen commentors. Some bloggers don’t screen at all. Others use word verification to try to prevent spam, for example. From what we’ve seen, every blogger has the ability to delete comments.

Here at Ashvegas, we use a system where we review each comment before it is published. We will not edit your comment. But if we don’t feel it’s appropriate, we won’t publish it.

We’ re not trying to discourage anybody from commenting. We’re not trying to quell the converstation. We want lively debate, and unlike others blogs we’ve seen, we will pull out comments and highlight them in new posts just to be sure that everyone sees what’s being said.

(Sidenote: we also think it’s a pain to have to go back to individual posts, then click on comments to read.  We’re still trying to figure a way around that. We instituted the “what you said page,” but haven’t done a good job keeping that updated. We’re still working on that.)

Bottom line: comment away. Be silly. Be cutting. Be clever. Be horny. Be dodgy. Be disapproving. Be analytical. Be whatever you are. But know that this remains a public space, so please comment accordingly.

So I guess that means the infamous 7 words are out of the question then. I mean, all I want to do is broaden our vocabulary! 😛
