As we move into the new year, it seems that the order of the day is for businesses to get settled. Here’s what we know:

The Thirsty Monk, Asheville’s first Belgian beer bar, is set to open Jan. 24. That’s the word that’s got everyone excited. The bar had targeted last September to be open in the former Hookah Joe’s location downtown, but that just didn’t work out. Belgian beer lovers, hang on for another couple of weeks.

The Sword & Grail, Asheville’s downtown comic shop, plans to re-locate out to Leicester Highway in a move that will bring some great energy to a remodeled shopping complex. The S&G plans to move in next door to Virtual Ambush, the awesome computer game room that’s already there in a former Bi-Lo store. That’s what we call “synergy.” Should be great for both businesses.

There’s a big “For Sale” sign outside of Iris Photographic. Word is that the business is looking to relocate from Merrimon Avenue to south Ashvegas.

Do you know of any businesses moving, opening, closing, hiring, firing, etc.? Tell us.

There’s yet ANOTHER sushi restaurant opening on Broadway, where Rio Burrito used to be. *shakes fist at restaurant gods*

And Bobo Lounge is expanding…so I hear.

Glad to hear Iris is looking to relocate. I heard they were closing for good, but it’s a phenomenal store with great staff and they provide many services that are difficult to find in a world dominated by digital photography.

Dan and Jael are starting a chocolate lounge called the French Broad Chocolate Lounge ( http://www.frenchbroadchocolates.com/ ) and are busy getting everything together for the opening in a few weeks. It’s on Church Street and it’s looking good!

Sucks for downtown people, but when I’m not in a kitchen, I do love hanging out in Sword and the grail.

Lucky for me that now instead of being near my work, it’s near my home!

I am gonna nerd out so hard!
