There’s just a week to go before the big Ashvegas City Council election, in which voters will choose a new mayor and three council members.

This year’s race remains uncommonly quiet. Council members Joe Dunn and Terry Bellamy, both running for mayor, stirred things up a little bit during a debate at a CIBO luncheon last week, but no real fireworks.

We expect the frantic forces to really get things going this week. Watch for a whisper campaign. Look for some last-minute television advertising. And maybe a little Halloween back-stabbing.

Bellamy picked up the local newspaper’s endorsement today. The newspaper also has a decent profile of both candidates.

Seems that she has all the elements lined up for a victory. But we’re still predicting an 11th-hour surge will come out for Dunn and put him over the top.

Oh, and here’s a Dunn campaign sign along Kimberly, where the rich folks live. I think the skeleton on the ground is a Dunn constituent. As sytntax would say, this is funny on several levels.

By the way, the north part of Kimberly is NOT all rich folks, nor is the area around Kimberly all rich folks. And there are LOTS of North Ashevillians who are voting for Bellamy.

    What’s a whisper campaign?
