The magazine publishing world is one that’s tough to compete in. There are a million magazines out there, all vying for some shelf space and advertisers. That competition heats up even more on a regional or local level for a magazine.

So it came as no surprise when we read over at 1000 Black Lines that the foodie magazine D’Licious was all but dead. To great fanfare, the mag published its first issue back in August. The magazine people threw a big kick-off party at the Haywood Park Hotel. We haven’t seen another issue of the magazine since.

No big loss. It wasn’t that good.

Meantime, buzz has been building for WNC Magazine. The publishers of Charleston magazine, a glossy magazine thick with advertising and interesting stories, is moving into the mountains. Word is these people know what they’re doing.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see. But it’s an interesting new player on the scene.
