Couldn’t let these obituaries pass without notice. These people sound like they lived amazing lives. Lucille Creasman survived four husbands and lived her life in Henderson and Buncombe counties. Sarah Sally Arny Holmes traveled the world and helped found the library at Givens Estate.
Hendersonville – Lucille Frady Creasman, 103, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Elizabeth House Hospice Center.
She was born July 17, 1905 on Butler Ridge Road in Fletcher and was the daughter of the late Charles E. Frady and Lena Butler Frady.
She was preceded in death by four husbands, Seth Edmundson, Edgar Waters, Dewey Jones and Marvin Creasman and was also preceded by her beloved poodle, Barney.
She lived all of her life in Henderson and Buncombe Counties and retired from the A & P Tea Co. in 1961. She was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.

Asheville – Sarah Sally Arny Holmes, 102, formerly of Givens Estate, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at The Laurels of Green Tree Ridge. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Henry Vinacombe Arny and Katharine Smith Arny and wife of the late Harold Holmes. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Holmes, MD.
Sally and Harold moved to Asheville in 1972 from North Plainfield, New Jersey. Mrs. Holmes was a graduate of Montclair (NJ) High School; Mount Holyoke College (BA); Tulane University (MS); Rutgers University (MLS). She was an Honorary Life Member of the American Association of University Women, Hendersonville Branch. Sally was instrumental in establishing and organizing the Library at Givens Estate. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sarah Circle, the Library and Altar Guild. Sally was a volunteer at the Folk Art Center; a member of the Century Club, and the Garden Gate Garden Club. Mrs. Holmes always enjoyed her garden, reading, genealogy, sewing, knitting, birds and wildflowers. In addition, she had a passion for travel having visited 5 continents, as well as, many of the states; crossed the Arctic Circle, the Equator, and the International Date Line.
