I checked out the newest brewhaus in town Friday night, which actually isn’t quite so new.

Asheville Pizza and Brewing, which has been around for awhile now, has opened up a new shop down along Coxe avenue in a converted auto repair shop. The special appeal is a huge outdoor seating area, a place where you can catch a cool Ashvegas breeze and sip great beer under a giant car port.

As McFly and I discussed over said brews, this is the sort of venue sorely lacking in Ashvegas. The best offerings in town so far of true outdoor beergardens have been few and far between. Some cafes that serve beer. Jack of the Woods, which has a great vide inside, but just a narrow strip of outside space along the choke-inducing byway of Patton Avenue.

I actually hope the owners keep the new Asheville Pizza place just the way it is, sort of half-finished. Keep the masking tape on the metal fixtures. Don’t finish the floors. Keep the plasma screen TVs (and make ’em even bigger if you can).

One request from McFly – lose the fern bar-style tables and chairs inside.

The biggest plus of all is that the new space will allow Asheville Pizza and Brewing to increase its beer-making capacity. The folks there already know a great beer when they taste it. Here’s to plenty more success for them.
