Here’s the info, from kickstarter, where the event is aiming to raise $10,000:

Based in lovely Asheville, NC, Fresh Asheville is a grassroots organization focused on educating and inspiring people to action through film and community participation. Fresh Asheville focuses on solutions and the importance that daily choices have on the health, environment, and sustainability of our community and the world. Fresh Asheville has teamed with the Dutch Environmental Film Festival to bring the latest and top quality related documentaries to the Asheville Food & Environmental Film Festival September 22-25, 2010. Fresh Asheville was inspired by the movie FRESH, making it the headliner of this year’s festival.

Participating restaurants will host an Opening Dinner at Eyes of Blue Farm featuring locally produced delights with proceeds to benefit this year’s community project. This will be followed by three days of citywide screenings, lectures and workshops, and a closing dinner at Eyes of Blue Farm catered by Food Experience. This will be an opportunity to have a local farm fresh meal with the attending Directors and Producers of the festival film selection. Collaborative efforts are being made with the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNCA) and Slow Food Asheville to include students in the festival program, and to launch UNCA’s own chapter of Slow Food International during the festival, which will empower students to become more involved in solutions.

Call it what you will I call it begging for money for someone elses dream. Thats why its called your dream, but if others want to waste their money and time for someone elses dream then so be it, thats their business.

Im far from well off, actually pretty close to poor, but I live within my means and dont beg for others to make my dream come true. I have something called iniative and self respect and know my limits, without having to resort to begging for money to fund my dreams. If this meant so much then get a loan, apply for a grant, but if it fails it makes the "dreamer" look bad and you might have to pay that load back, this way you don’t have to pay nothing back if it fails but you reap ALL the benefits if it succeeds.

And fund raising is fine charities, helping groups, but for worthless garbage like ANOTHER FILM FESTIVAL or a NEW ALBUM that is begging.

And another thing, A silly film festival or movie in Asheville is going to change everything you griped about, you need to think outside the box like you claim you do. Its like the same morons that claim that a certain movie saved their life. Without proper awareness its going to stay the same, this Dream is targeting one facet of people not general population, and its target audiance is preaching to the choir.

I’d say fundraising is significantly different than "begging" and I think it is quite a bit more than just one person’s dream. Does Asheville Dweller have something against Locally Produced food? Frito’s and Coca Cola is more your thing?

Wow, let me see, someone is trying to do something that promotes good, fresh, healthy locally grown food, and then someone else is trying to claim that "fundraising" is begging? Fundraising has been a significant part of almost every social movement on the globe. I guess that Asheville dweller wants every social activist to be independently wealthy? What do you suggest Fresh Asheville do, nothing but make ignorant posts on websites all day and do nothing to change the Fast Food culture that we have? Seems that you are doing that pretty well and do not need any additional help. Hey, try making a positive difference, Dweller. Contribute!

Re: Begging for money. Wal Mart, McDonalds and the others are begging for other people money everyday. At least this brings awareness and good to others. Just thinking outloud.

If its reality then why are you begging for money on that website? If it was finished then you wouldnt need the money.

I stand by what I said more begging for money for someone elses dream.

This is no dream, it’s a reality. No begging, just an offering. Would be happy to share with you the gift of a free pass to an inspiring screening.
