Press release here:
North Carolina Stage Company presents the risqué comedy I Wrote This Play To Make You Love Me, by Anne Thibault, May 27 – July 18. Anne Thibault wrote and stars in this comedy about a struggling actress and her promiscuous past. I Wrote This Play To Make You Love Me is running in repertory with two other comedies (Like Mother and A Beautiful View– see www.ncstage.org for the full repertory schedule.)
In addition to experimenting with a repertory schedule, NC Stage is experimenting with ticket pricing, offering “choose your own ticket price” between $15 and $30 for all performances.
Anne Thibault wrote and stars in this risqué comedy about a struggling actress. Lysette is possibly pregnant by her married boyfriend, and stuck in rural Vermont rehearsing a production of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. She struggles to put her life in perspective as she remembers (in vivid detail) the trail of one-night-stands she has left in her wake. Part Dorothy Parker, part Carrie Bradshaw, Lysette is unflinchingly honest, whether she’s discussing the sexual foibles of a one-night-stand or the pain of losing her mother. I Wrote This Play… contains strong language and sexual situations and only adults will be admitted.
I Wrote This Play To Make You Love Me is directed by Jay Putnam. Although he is making his Asheville debut with this play, he was Artistic Associate at Triad Stage in Greensboro for five years, where he directed numerous productions. Currently he is a professor of Acting & Directing at High Point University, where he recently directed Almost, Maine.
Anne Thibault plays Lysette, and she is joined by Hans Meyer, playing the various men in her life. Thibault is the Associate Artistic Director of the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre and has worked extensively in regional theatre, including in Asheville.
