MountainX voters: Ashvegas best blog

We have to take time out to thank the readers of Mountain Xpress for voting us best blog in the newspaper’s annual Best Of polling.

Just like with national elections, we’re digging through the numbers trying to find our strengths and weaknesses. We want to please the base, while continuing to attract new support. That’s because this year is the first year MountainX included the “best blog” category, and we know competition is going to be fierce.

From best we can tell, the Scrutiny Hooligans were kicking our ass until we dropped off several cases of Milwaukee’s Best at the UNCA dorms and got some people doing some serious clicking. But you do what you gotta do. There are, like, a million Hooligans and only one of us.

The third place finisher was a blog we’d never even heard of, Asheville Performing Arts Reviews. What the hell? We spend hour upon hour torturing ourselves watching the WLOSers so you don’t have to, and we’re barely beating a bunch of self-appointed art critics? Damn. You can see why this is such a tough category.

Meantime, MountainX contributer and blogger Edgy Mama has an obvious inside track and will no doubt spend the coming year rallying her pnav crew to vote against me. How can we compete with cute overload?

Well, we’re gonna try. We’ll figure something out. More scantily clad Battlestar chicks, more WLOSer comedy gold and more of the Ashvegas eclectic, for sure.

Milwaukee’s Best! I should have known! The mulled wine and stinky sheep cheese I offered didn’t inspire those college students, that’s for sure.
