Sammy Cox, the longtime distribution manager for the Mountain Xpress, is leaving to focus on his own distribution company called Grass Routes. In working with Sammy, I found him to be one the most professional, personable, big-hearted people I’ve ever met. Sammy’s an avid runner, and he was always competing at the highest levels during the few races I’ve run over the past few years.

From Sammy:

I’m shifting gears to manage and operate my own business, Grass Routes, which is now a full-time delivery service and project/product development company. The nationally-certified green small business manages a number of local and regional publications, sponsors various environmental projects and provides management and logistical services for various agencies including Buncombe County Public Libraries.

It has been a pleasure working with each and every one of you through the years. I wish all of you “best of luck!” and I’ll be seeing some of you “out in the field”. Thanks for your support and interest with Mountain Xpress. I’ve enjoyed my tenure here and will continue to enjoy supporting the local newsweekly.

Asheville folks, support Grass Routes. Good luck, Sammy!

Way to go Sammy ! As a former longtime coworker I can attest that Xpress will certainly miss you. You'll be difficult to replace. With all the recent turnover of long-term staffers it will be interesting to see how Xpress fares.

I'd say Sammy has been the main man behind "Xpress papers are everywhere" — something like 28,000 papers each Wednesday to over 700 distribution spots throughout 7 different counties in Western NC.

Thanks for all you've done Sammy — both in dedicated hours and sweat … and in morale-boosting at the office and just being an all around great, nice, sincere, down-to-earth guy. Here's to your NEW venture and the growing of Grass Routes !

I have had the pleasure of working with Sammy Cox for the last seven years. He and his staff did a fantastic job of distributing our weekly magazine. His leadership of the distribution team gave the Real Estate Weekly the best distribution of any real estate magazine in Western North Carolina. His integrity and professionalism seem to be an extension of his personal and professional values. I am sorry to see him go, but I am excited for him at the same time. I am sure that Sammy will be successful moving forward. Way to go Sammy!
