The big protest
Charu Khumaria exclaimed that a “massive protest breaks out” in downtown Ashvegas at the Bank of America branch near Pritchard Park. If 40 people or so is “massive,” then we’re worried how Charu will describe the Bele Chere crowds next year.

Anyway, you can read more about how WLOSers covered the protest if you scroll down.

Mom forgets child
A 28-year-old mother shopping at the Swannanoa Ingles told cops she forget she left her child locked up in a car outside after a guy walking by the car saw the child, got worried, smashed the window with a tire iron to rescue the kid and called police. The woman is charged with misdemeanor child abuse. The child will be OK. DSS is investigating.

Meanwhile, Holly Headrick did a story saying that running errands with young children can be a pain.

Macon mom runs over child
Out in Macon County, a mother with a 3-year-old in the bed of a pick-up was driving through a ditch and bounced the child out of the vehicle, then ran over her child. The toddler died. Police are investigating, and the mother is charged.

Asheville City Council filing dates
If you want to run in the non-partisan elections for Asheville City Council, you have until noon Monday to file. The primary will be held Oct. 9.l

In other news…
It’s back to school time, which means cops are out telling people to slow down in school zones and on’t pass stopped school buses… In some odd language, WLOSers told us that a suicide hotline has been “established for our nation’s warriors.”… A Georgia man has been charged with killing his girlfriend in Cherokee County… There are more and more bear sightings these days, WLOSers said, and by the way, a bear got hit by a car on the interstate Monday morning and died… Karl Rove announced he was quitting his job as White House advisor at the end of August… Henderson County has the official N.C. Apple Festival, but Haywood County is horning in on their territory with an Oct. 21 Haywood County Apple Harvest Festival.… And Arnold Palmer came out to Etowah in Henderson County to turn some dirt on a new golf course he’s designing at Seven Falls Golf and River Club.

Say what, Pat?
After a dumb story about a hog-calling contest somewhere, Pat Simon did a little suuu-eee call and told Tammy that if you’ve ever been to an Arkansas Razorback football game, that call is “a sight to hear.” Yeah, he actually said that.

WTF?
